Keeping Dementia Front of Mind: 24.9.2009
The number of Australians with dementia will quadruple to 1.1 million by 2050, according to a new forecast that predicts the condition will be nearly 50 per cent more common than previously thought.Driven by the ageing of the population, the number of people with dementia will soar from 245,000 people now to nearly 600,000 by 2030, topping 1.1million 20 years later, says a report released by Alzheimer's Australia. This report 'Keeping Dementia Front of Mind: Incidence and Prevalence 2009 - 2050' has been timed to inform the Government's response to the National Health and Hospital Reform Commissions report and the decisions to be taken in the 2010 Budget on the next five years of the Dementia Initiative - Making Dementia a National Health Priority. MILENA SIMIC: 30.6.2009
Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine, School of Physiotherapy at the Melbourne University, is undertaking research project about joint disease and knee osteoarthritis in particular. People over the age of 50 with diagnosed knee problems can participate in this study. Miss Milena Simic PhD student is a member of the research team, and this study will form part of the requirement of her PhD dissertation.

Dr Aleksandar Petrovic: 11.5.2009
Serbian Academy of Science and Arts marked 130th anniversary of the great Serbian scientist Mr Milutin Milankovic by large scientific exhibition on its premises.
The event was organised by both Dr Aleskander Petrovic and Dr Djordje Zlokovic in cooperation and enormous help of many other world prominent scientists. Milankovic's work encompasses a range of scientific fields ranging from Cosmic Physics, Sky Mechanics, Geophysics and the Theory of Sun radiation as well as the climate changes through the geological history of Earth. Milankovic is called one of the biggest scientists of our time in line with Kepler and Nicola Tesla.

DR Vladimir Grubor: 17.3.2009
Dr Vladimir Grubor and his team have made a big step forward in investigating genomic changes in a large series of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Considering some of those patients with an aggressive disease and a poor prognosis Dr Grubor's research could bring some hope to more effective treatment for some , while spearing others from toxic effects of therapy. Cytogenic studies paved the way to investigating which genes might be CLL -specific, and consequently which patients may be candidates for new treatment approaches.
