Carlo Ratti's vision of city life: 18.2.2009
Sydney was the host city for Metropolis 2008 and one of the most acclaimed guest speakers was Carlo Ratti.
In 2003, Ratti established the SENSEable City Laboratory, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( MIT) research group that explores the "real-time city" by studying the increasing deployment of sensors and hand-held electronics, and their relationship to the built environment.
SENSEable launched the Real Time Rome project at the 2006 Venice Biennale, which employed data from mobile phones, buses and taxis to render immediate imaging of urban dynamics across an evening in Rome.
Carlo Ratti tries pushes the boundaries of his art.
