BALIBO WAR CRIMES: 14.9.2009
A war crimes investigation has been launched into the deaths of the so-called BALIBO Five in EAST TIMOR more than 30 years ago. Television journalists GREG SHACKLETON and MALCOLM RENNIE, cameramen GARY CUNNINGHAM and BRIAN PETERS, and sound recordist TONY STEWART died in 1975. They were killed in the town of BALIBO while trying to capture images of Indonesian troops as they invaded the former Portuguese colony. Sergei Serbin report

CHILD ABUSE: 8.9.2009
A survey has found that about a quarter of all Australian adults have identified a case of suspected child abuse and neglect in the past five years. Almost half of these people went on to report the incident to child protection authorities or police, though many took no action. The results of the survey by the Australian Childhood Foundation have been released to mark Child Protection Week (from September 6-12). Sergei Serbin report

Around the world, the number of humanitarian aid workers becoming the victims of violent attacks is on the increase.The United Nations says last year, 122 humanitarian workers were killed while on duty - more than triple the number a decade earlier.
