Work related deductions: 24.9.2009
It’s tax time, which means most of us have until October 31 to get organised. A lot of people claim expenses that are related to their work. This may include the cost of running a car for work, travel that is work-related, uniforms you need to buy and costs associated with educating yourself so you can do your job better. The most important rule to keep in mind is that the expense you are claiming must be related to your work and not your private life, said for our program ATO's Smiljana Kosutic.

Beware of using an unregistered preparer : 28.8.2009
It’s very important to use a registered tax agent for a number of reasons. Its against the law for unregistered tax agents to charge a fee for preparing your return. You also risk getting poor advice and poor service. Promises of large refunds based on incorrect deductions or other inaccuracies could leave you with a big tax bill. And in this case, it’s the taxpayer who has to pay the penalties. And you run the risk of your identity being stolen and fraud committed in your name. ATO's Smiljana Kosuti' tells us more.
