Prime Minister John Howard and Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Mal Brough were heavily critised by a broad section of the Aboriginal community around the country recently when they agreed that the only way that Aboriginal Children would get further in life would be to force them to learn English.

Writer, Actor and Musician, Richard Green had to learn his grandmother's tongue by researching it in archives in Sydney. He tells his story to Valerie Bichard.

Bush Medicine Woman: 28.6.2007
Lola Young is a bush medicine woman and teacher from the Pilbara region in WA.

Together with a friend, Anna Vitenburgs they have written a book called, "Lola Young, medicine woman and teacher".

Lola was born on Rocklea station in the Pilbara in 1942. She is the eldest of 6 children. She has 23 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Lola learnt about bush medicine when she was a young girl from her grandparents. Now she teaches both her family and non-Aboriginal people.
In 1990 she established the Wakuthuni Community to bring her family home to their country.

Valerie Bichard speaks with Lola about her home and her work as a bush medicine woman.
