Serbian Welfare Association will change the name : 5.10.2009
In December last year the Serbian Welfare Association of Victoria conducted a Developmental Feasibility Study, funded by the Victorian Multicultural Commission. This study was undertaken for the purposes of ascertaining the needs and concerns of the Serbian community, residing in Victoria. Zvrk's 10th anniversary : 13.10.2009
Radio of Republic of Srpska broadcasts programme of its own production 24/7. The programme is aired on the territory of the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, parts of Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia, and can also be listened to worldwide via internet. One of the shows with the considerable listener ship is ZVRK talking about ordinary life in the satirical and humorous way. On the 1st of January next year this show is marking ten years of broadcasting. "We have survived hard times and low-water just in spite" said Zvrk's editor and author Borislav Mitrovic for SBS. Radio Belgrade 85th Anniversary: 8.10.2009
Radio Belgrade started broadcasting in 1929, and this is considered the founding moment of the Serbian broadcasting system. The first news announcer in 1929 was Jelena Bilbija. After World War II, Radio Television Belgrade (RTB), consisting of Radio Belgrade and Television Belgrade (TVB) was established as a result of the decision by the Executive Council of the Socialist Republic of Serbia on February 13, 1958. Changes in the behaviour of a person with dementia are very common. This may place enormous stress on families and carers. It can be particularly upsetting when someone previously gentle and loving behaves in a strange or aggressive way.There are many reasons why a person’s behaviour may be changing. Dementia is a result of changes that take place in the brain and affects the person’s memory, mood and behaviour. Sometimes the behaviour may be related to these changes taking place in the brain. Serbian Film Festival : 30.9.2009
This year marks the ninth year of screening of Serbian films to Australian audience. Festival secretary Milica Kozlina told us that this year, for the first time, festival will be held in two additional cities: Canberra and Wollongong. Six Serbian movies will be presented this year: Love and Other Crimes, The Tour, The Fourth Man, Autumn in my Street, The Ambulance and The Belgrade Phantom. All movies are with English subtitles. Karadjordje Cup, Serbian Soccer Tournament: 29.9.2009
The Karadjordje Cup is a soccer tournament held each year in October with a different Australian city as the host. The Tournament is organized by the local Serbian Community. The competing clubs have their roots within the Serbian Community but the players that participate reflect the Multicultural society that is Australia. This year 13 teams will compete and hosted by Serbian Sports Club Kraina in Melbourne told us Kraina president Slobodan Dakic.

Politikin Zabavnik 70th anniversary: 23.9.2009
The first issue of Serbian weekly magazine Politikin zabavnik was published on 28th February 1939 and is still running. It was published two times per week from 1939 to 1941, during which time a total number of 220 issues were published. The title was picked up in 1952 and has since been published once a week. Keeping Dementia Front of Mind: 23.9.2009
The number of Australians with dementia will quadruple to 1.1 million by 2050, according to a new forecast that predicts the condition will be nearly 50 per cent more common than previously thought.Driven by the ageing of the population, the number of people with dementia will soar from 245,000 people now to nearly 600,000 by 2030, topping 1.1million 20 years later, says a report released by Alzheimer's Australia. This report 'Keeping Dementia Front of Mind: Incidence and Prevalence 2009 - 2050' has been timed to inform the Government's response to the National Health and Hospital Reform Commissions report and the decisions to be taken in the 2010 Budget on the next five years of the Dementia Initiative - Making Dementia a National Health Priority. Sreten Bozic Wongar Honorary Doctor of Science: 23.9.2009
Australian author - fiction, drama and poetry. In 1960 when aged 28, he began to learn English in order to write; since then he has published 20 books. In his unique genre of writing, Wongar portrays the fate of Australian Aborigines which he also links to the state of Australian perishing wildlife. He is best known for his Nuclear Quartet-novels Walg, Karan, Gabo Djara, Raki and Mada which extended the perimeter of creative writing and brought him international recognition. Some of his earlier work have been banned by the Australian Government, thus depriving him of publishing opportunities in Australia and the U.K. Wongar began publishing first in France, Germany and the USA, encouraged by Simone de Beauvoir, Samuel Beckett and many other well known authors. His books are often illustrated by traditional Aboriginal artist Yumanga Burarrwanga of Arnhem Land. Wongar is a life member of the Australian Atomic Ex-Servicemen's Association. He lives with his pack of dingoes on his bush property in Gippsland, south of Melbourne. wongar has become Honorary Doctor of Science of University of Kragujevac on Monday 21st September.
